To New Friends

Updated: Mar 1

May 2014

I am home now after my two and a half week trip to Israel. I am, admittedly, happy to be home and to see my family. But I can't say that I won't miss Israel, with my hotel on the beach and the amazing weather every day. The thing I'll miss the most, though, isn't the scenery, but the people.

The group of students on our trip got very close during these two weeks. We became great friends, and some us might have never met each other on campus. We know each other now better than some of our closest friends probably know us, and it is saddening to think that some of them won't be on campus next semester. I miss them all already.

We also got very close with a group of students at the IDC. We spent countless nights on their rooftop hanging out and talking. They invited us over for barbecues and Shabbat dinner and showed us the most welcoming hospitality. Some of them will be at Cuse in the fall for a similar program, and I can't wait to see them. I know that I will go back to Israel now because I have friends to visit there.

And lastly, I can't forget our friend at the hotel, Taya. Taya is one of the servers at breakfast and he sort of adopted our group as his own. He took the time to teach us some Hebrew and even offered for one of the students to stay with him for a few months to learn the language. On the last day he had us all friend request him on Facebook and told us if we ever needed anything from Israel to just let him know and he would send it over. He was so sweet to us and we will all miss him.

I met some amazing people and made some truly amazing new and lasting friendships on this trip. I couldn't be happier with the people I got to share this experience with. Until we meet again, shalom.
