About Discover with Sam

Hello, and welcome to Discover with Sam! I share local experiences from around the world through travel writing and blogging, content creation, and travel planning for my Experience Design Co. clients.

I took my first international trip at 16 to Italy and Spain and became obsessed with seeing the world. Since then, I have been lucky enough to study abroad in Israel and travel all over the U.S. and the world both for work and for fun.

My background is in experience design and local government innovation (yes, I’m a nerd), and this informs the lens through which I travel. I value local, cultural experiences over tourist attractions or luxury travel (but that’s not to say I don’t do those too 😉). I’m currently based in Washington, DC, soaking in some sunshine after spending 8 years in-love with a very snowy Syracuse, NY.

At Discover with Sam, I practice social impact travel, exploring and supporting local communities, economies, and ecosystems in mindful and respectful ways. I think the best way to experience a place is to immerse yourself in the culture as much as you can: learn the language, cook the food, and explore the local “watering holes.” I believe that travel can change the world; if we experience a breadth of places, cultures, and people so different but also so similar to ourselves, we can create improved human connection, sustainability, and empathy.

As I explore, I document my travels through writing, photography, and videography in order to reflect on my experiences, share what I’ve learned, and spread a love of the world we live in. I believe there is no better way to protect and appreciate our planet than by amplifying its many voices and wonders. I hope my doing so helps inform and inspire your travels as well!
